I am about to run out of my floor cleaner, what is a good recipe to clean, disinfect and a nice fragrance?
Thank you, have a blessed day!

Here are a couple of options from the book "Better Basics For the Home" which is my favorite resource:
1/4 c. liquid castile soap
Up to 1/2 c. white vinegar
2 gallons warm water
Combine in bucket. (I might add some essential oil at this point...something citrus or whatever you like!)

You can also omit the white vinegar and combine 1/4 c. liquid castile soap with the 2 gallons of water. I buy lavender scented castile soap...because I love the smell of lavender.

But he won't succeed. anyway. I am new at this and I can't seem to fine the castile soap, where do I find it. And is it best to get essential oils on line. That seems to be my biggest problem finding the resources Thanks again Andrea! God is using you huge trial to make things better for others. You are a blessing!

Hi Nancy!
I do like Vitacost for the castile soap. Amazon also has it available. As for the essential oils, if you go to Diffuserworld.com and click on the essential oil page it lists a number of recommended brands. Some of them may be available at Whole Foods or another health food store. www.diffuserworld.com/oil_cos.html

You're right...finding good solid sources is tough. We're working on a page for this to help...so I'm glad you raised the issue.

I also like Desert Essence brand of oils and those are available at health food stores generally or through Vitacost. So nice to hear from you!

I know that our first thoughts are to use vinegar when cleaning but that is one ingredient you want to remove from your cleaning kit (unless you are in an area with hard water)

Vinegar is useless as an all-around cleaning product, especially if you are just changing over from conventional synthetic cleaning products. The reason why so many people give up on natural cleaning is because they grab the vinegar and start to clean....then they get disappointed and go back to the conventional synthetic cleaning products because they, at least, seem to work.

Vinegar is unsafe for many of the materials we have in our home, such as granite, marble, gold coated fixtures, certain aluminum trims and much more... the damage it can cause can be very expensive to repair...anyone notice any hazing on counter tops or floors?

Vinegar can also cause respiratory issues from it's fumes, so you have to be careful how it is used

...and an interesting note....why do you think you can purchase white vinegar so cheap....could it be because it is a petroleum based product?
