Hello Andrea and everyone,
We are a few weeks away from mold remediation of our entire house. We did ERMI testing for upper and lower floors (scores of 9 and 16. Respectively). My son and I have had testing per Shoemaker and have the inflammatory markers for mold illness. My doc says I have positive scores for neurotoxicity on several measures ( I also have mercury exposure from past dental amalgams and have been triply blessed with an infected tick bite while gardening in my back yard.) My son has ADD that was present before we moved into the present moldy house. The mold growth is from a moldy storage room wall, and we have taken some measures to stop the water intrusion already. I have many GI problems and lowered immunity on two sub tests for IgG levels.

I have some immediate questions about what we must discard before remediation:
1. All mattresses and box springs?
2. Loved dining room chairs with rush seats that are about 5 years old?
3. Upholstered furniture: a sofa and a chair that are due for refurbishing. We may save $1500 if we reupholster rather than discard and replace. But is this too risky? I have no idea if tiny particles have been drawn through the fabric into the cushions below and are like spore bombs each time someone sits on them.

Thank you for this site and for any feedback!

Diane,
You're asking the right questions that's for sure. Can you email me any test results that have been done on this house? Mattresses are one of th top items to discard. Anything we sleep with will impact us for many hours and can hold back recovery. This is my best email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
