New here, questions about mold was created by Marina
Hello, my name is Marina and I live in Florida. A month ago i moved into a new house. The house is 10 yrs old. My son's bedroom is upstairs and next to a bathroom. His room is the only one that has an off smell to it. Not necessarily a damp smell, but different than other rooms. I see no sign of water leaks anywhere in his room or the room underneath it. His room is carpeted and the carpet is old. I was thinking maybe the smell was coming from carpet, but the whole upstairs has the same carpet and only his room smells different. I am having the carpet replaced with hardwoods next month and am afraid there could be mold in there and by lifting the carpet it would expose it. I don't know what to do. Should i just pull up carpet and see what happens or have it tested before? How do I test? Thanks
i I

You are very wise to be asking this, Marina. I would not pull this up either until I knew more about the source of the odor. You can do a dust sample to find out what is going on in the air. You can also thermal image the walls and ceiling to find out if there is hidden moisture. You can call an inspector who may have a thermal imaging camera or invest in one yourself. Again, you are very smart to be concerned. It may prove to be a simple fix.

I want to order the test that you get the cloth wipe but was wondering if I could wipe the carpet with it as well.

If there is visible dust I imagine you can. It might be worth calling Mycometrics to be sure! Tel: (732) 355-9018
