Questions about mold was created by Catherine Frizat
Hi, I'm Catherine and live in Los Angeles. My family suspects that my apartment may have mold. There were several water damages over the years (13 years here) and while the landlords fixed them we don't entirely trust it was done correctly. I am finally testing now.
My question is: let's say the test is positive and I decide to move. I find a clean new place. A family member comes to visit, they live in a moldy house. Will my new home be contaminated again? If you live in a moldy place do you carry the mold with you everywhere you go? If you move to a new clean place and buy new furniture etc, how do you know that the new furniture wasn't stored in a moldy warehouse and will contaminate your place again? How do you know that the mail that's delivered to you everyday doesn't come from a moldy post office? I mean: where do you draw the line? I would like to understand exactly the way contamination works from moldy place to non moldy place.
also with regards to personal items I've read that you must get rid of everything if you move to a new place. I've also read that some items can be cleaned of the mold. Which is right? If I have to move from my place will I have to buy everything brand new including all of my clothing? That seems a high expense with no guarantee of safety anyway. I'd also like to add that I'm not sick myself but I'd still like to know if there's toxic mold in my house. Any advice and answers you may have on the above would be greatly appreciated (especially the part about safety, people from moldy places visiting a clean place). Thank you

There is no perfect way to do this, listen to your gut instincts as you make decisions.
