Hi,
My son tested positive for MTHFR- A1298c gene mutation (heterzygous)...and several other methyl cycle mutations as well as high IgG viral loads for Parvo ab and Antistrptolysin O (others still pending).
I'm posting this for awareness b/c anyone who has chronic illness, ASD symptoms, neurological conditions, and auto-immune conditions should be tested for the MTHFR mutation. Even having one copy of one of the two mutations can severely effect one's ability to convert homocystine to methionine and cause severe methyl B 5 and 12 deficiencies. This means that the body is incapable of detoxifying and becomes more and more toxic. Every environmental exposure contributes to the total body burden for all of us but for those with Methyl mutations, this can be severe - even life threatening. This is one possible reason why one child gets multiple vaccinations and does fine, while another develops autism; or one person develops fibromyalgia and another (exposed to similar environmental stresses) seems healthy.
The MTHFR gene mutation test can be ordered by your primary care physician or pediatrician as follows. The cost is about $150- and is covered by most insurance. It is a simple blood draw.
MTHFR (Lab Corp or Quest)
If you or your child test positive, the treatment includes supplementation with methyl B folate and methyl cobalamine (methyl B 12), anti-oxidant's, TMG to lower homocystiene levels, diet and nutrition protocols, and other treatments as needed specific to the person's presenting symptoms, blood labs, and medical history.
