NEED HELP! was created by Nancy Fulford
Hi, I'm new at all of this and I'm interested in learning all that I can. I'm also in need of some advise as to what's out there for head lice. I have a 7 year old granddaughter that continues to be exposed to them. I'm worried about Her exposure to all the chemicals and pesticides. Are you aware of any home remedies that may be out there? I would be grateful for any help. And also wanted to thank you for your hard work and all the time you've put into this site. I love it,and have already learned so much.

You are smart to avoid the chemicals. It's certainly worth a shot to use natural remedies. Here are 3 that I have come across. I'm copying and pasting. These are the suggestions I have heard before so they seem right on to me.
1. Lice breathe via an air hole on the sides of their bodies. Coat the scalp with oil (olive oil works well). You can add peppermint or tea tree oil which speeds up their respiration, which makes them breathe in the oil faster. The oil causes them to suffocate (my husband is an entomologist).
2. Use a product called Moov. it has essential oils, comes with a lovely green shower cap and only stays in for 10 mins

Thanks for the info. I was wondering where can I find the product you called moov? I called a health store, but they don't carry it. Thanks again for your help.

Moov looks to be from Australia - so it would have to be an online purchase. I think nice thick oil like olive oil and tea tree oil may be a good start.

Thanks, that's what I going to try if she gets them again. Last year was a nightmare, we would treat her hair , the house , the beds , the cars , ( you get the message ) Send her back to school and within 3 days she would have a head full again. Come to find out, one of the kids in her class had them and the mother wasn't treating the house. So my granddaughter had to be treated3 times in a 4 week period. She stays with me a lot, so that means myself, my husband, my house, everything had to be treated every time. I,m disabled, so when I say nightmare, it really was. Its already started this year, so that's why I was trying to find something without all the pesticides.

Oh dear, that does sound like a nightmare! You're smart to anticipate and come up with a different plan. We had head lice twice when we lived in IL - nightmare is a good word.
